Growing together in the Spirit of Jesus Christ...

"Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:25 NIV

Pictures, videos, words, music,
the internet, other people...
all can enhance the learning
and worship experience.
But the true meaning of worship
is your personal relationship with God.

"Worship gatherings are not always spectacular,
but they are always supernatural.
And if a church looks for or works for the spectacular,
she may miss the supernatural.
If a person enters a gathering to be wowed
with something impressive,
with a style that fits him just right,
with an order of service and song selection
designed just the right way,
that person may miss the supernatural presence of God.
Worship is supernatural whenever people come hungry
to respond, react, and receive from God
for who He is and what He has done.
A church worshipping as a Creature of the Word
doesn't show up to perform or be entertained;
she comes desperate and needy, thirsty for grace,
receiving from the Lord and the body of Christ,
and then gratefully receiving what she needs
as she offers her praise -
the only proper response to the God who saves us."

read and digest...

read and digest

"There are times when solitude is better than society,
and silence is wiser than speech.
We should be better Christians if we were more alone,
waiting upon God, and gathering through meditation
on His Word spiritual strength for labour in his service.
We ought to muse upon the things of God,
because we thus get the real nutriment out of them...
Why is it that some Christians,
although they hear many sermons,
make but slow advances in the divine life?
Because they neglect their closets,
and do not thoughtfully meditate on God's Word.
They love the wheat, but they do not grind it;
they would have the corn,
but they will not go forth into the fields to gather it;
the fruit hangs upon the tree,
but they will not pluck it;
the water flows at their feet,
but they will not stoop to drink it.
From such folly deliver us, O Lord..."

owe it all to You...

"There's a place where sin and shame are powerless
Where my heart has peace with God and forgiveness
Where all the love I've ever found
Comes like a flood
Comes flowing down"

I found one

Easter egg hunts are fun for the kids
but we should all seek a higher prize.
Thankfully it is even easier than finding
an Easter egg.
But it does take making a choice
and a commitment.

Find real peace and joy through
the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Salvation is yours to be had,
all you have to do is want it and ask for it.

generation to generation...

generation to generation

"In a house which becomes a home,
one hands down and another takes up
the heritage of mind and heart,
laughter and tears, musings and deeds.
Love, like a carefully loaded ship,
crosses the gulf between the generations.
Therefore, we do not neglect the ceremonies
of our passage: when we wed, when we die,
and when we are blessed with a child;
When we depart and when we return;
When we plant and when we harvest.
Let us bring up our children.
It is not the place of some official
to hand to them their heritage…
…If others impart to our children our knowledge
and ideals, they will lose all of us that is
wordless and full of wonder.
Let us build memories in our children,
lest they drag out joyless lives,
lest they allow treasures to be lost because
they have not been given the keys.
We live, not by things, but by the meanings
of things. It is needful to transmit the passwords
from generation to generation."

life change...

"We must be willing to get rid of
the life we've planned,
so as to have the life that is waiting for us.
The old skin has to be shed
before the new one can come."
- Joseph Campbell

"Sometimes I go to God and say,
'God, if Thou dost never answer another prayer
while I live on this earth,
I will still worship Thee as long as I live
and in the ages to come
for what Thou hast done already.'

God’s already put me so far in debt
that if I were to live one million millenniums
I couldn’t pay Him for what He’s done for me."

"The year’s at the spring
And day’s at the morn;
Morning’s at seven;
The hillside’s dew-pearled;
The lark’s on the wing;
The snail’s on the thorn;
God’s in His heaven -
All’s right with the world!"

the cross

the cross

"To know the Cross
is not merely to know our own sufferings.
For the Cross is the sign of salvation,
and no man is saved by his own sufferings.
To know the Cross is to know
that we are saved by the sufferings of Christ;
more, it is to know the love of Christ
Who underwent suffering and death
in order to save us.
It is, then, to know Christ."
- Thomas Merton

wrong road

"We all want progress,
but if you are on the wrong road,
progress means doing an about-turn
and walking back to the right road;
in that case the man who turns back soonest
is the most progressive."

peaceful life...

peaceful life

"Many people feel so pressured
by the expectations of others
that it causes them to be frustrated,
miserable and confused
about what they should do.
But there is a way to live a simple,
joy-filled, peaceful life,
and the key is learning how
to be led by the Holy Spirit,
not the traditions or expectations of man."

Bible search...

While having your coffee (or tea) today,
And do this...
Bible Book Search.
Find the sixteen books of the Bible
hidden in the following story.

"I once made a remark about the hidden books of the Bible.
It was a lu-lu – kept people looking so hard for facts,
and for others it was a revelation.
Some were in a jam, especially since the name of the books
were not capitalized, but the truth finally struck home
to numbers of readers. To others it was a real job.
We want it to be a most fascinating
few moments for you.
Yes, there will be some really easy ones to spot.
Others might require judges to help them.
I will quickly admit it usually takes a minister
to find one of them, and there will be
loud lamentations when it is found!
A little lady says she brews a cup of tea,
so she can concentrate better.
See how well you can compete.
Relax now, for there really are 16
names of books in the Bible in this story.”

Good luck!

In our social interactions,
we have acquaintances, friends, close friends,
companions, followers, and perhaps, a partner.
To each of these we assign a different
level of commitment.
A companion is a friend that we like
to spend a decent amount of time with.
We become a follower of someone, or some organization,
when we support them and think about them often.
A partner requires an even greater amount of commitment.
You become a partner when your time is quite often their time
and you look to be with them over anyone else.
Where does God fit into this hierarchy?
God wants us to love Him with “all” of our heart,
“all” of our mind and “all” of our spirit and soul.
That sounds to me like

God our senior partner... we, His faithful servant,
a willing and joyful slave
to a merciful, loving, Creator and Master,
our LORD... who wants to share
His life with us.
We can only be truly free, and be everything
we can be, by submitting ourselves to Him.

"Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker.
Failure is delay, not defeat.
It is a temporary detour, not a dead end.
Failure is something we can avoid only by
saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing."

harbinger of Spring...

harbinger of Spring
(taken 3/8/2016)

This is our harbinger of Spring,
finally blooming for 2016...
the hope of warmer weather,
fresh flowers, and sweet smells.

"God's will is that none should perish.
Judgement isn't His desire... but His necessity.
The good must bring evil to an end,
or else it would cease to be good.
And yet His mercy is still greater than His judgement.
His heart always wills for redemption.
And therein lies the hope."
- Jonathan Cahn

As we travel through life
we will encounter
bumps in the road.
Some bumps we will be forewarned
but others will occur unexpectedly.
These bumps can strengthen us
or derail us so much that
we become severely depressed.
If we remember that God is always with us,
that He loves us, and that all will be made right
(as we trust Him),
then we will find His peace within.

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
- 1 Peter 5:7 NIV

"Spirituality is not to be learned
by flight from the world,
or by running away from things,
or by turning solitary
and going apart from the world.
Rather, we must learn an inner solitude
wherever or with whomsoever we may be.
We must learn to penetrate things
and find God there."
- Meister Eckhart

healing spirit...

healing spirit

"There is a LIGHT in this world.
A healing spirit more powerful
than any darkness we may encounter.
We sometime lose sight of this force
when there is suffering, and too much pain.
Then suddenly, the spirit will emerge
through the lives of ordinary people
who hear a call
and answer in extraordinary ways."

grace through faith...

grace through faith

"Because salvation is by grace through faith, I believe that among the countless number of people standing in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb, dressed in white robes and holding palms in their hands (see Revelation 7:9), I shall see the prostitute from the Kit-Kat Ranch in Carson City, Nevada, who tearfully told me that she could find no other employment to support her two-year-old son. I shall see the woman who had an abortion and is haunted by guilt and remorse but did the best she could faced with grueling alternatives; the businessman besieged with debt who sold his integrity in a series of desperate transactions; the insecure clergyman addicted to being liked, who never challenged his people from the pulpit and longed for unconditional love; the sexually abused teen molested by his father and now selling his body on the street, who, as he falls asleep each night after his last 'trick', whispers the name of the unknown God he learned about in Sunday school.

'But how?' we ask.

Then the voice says, 'They have washed their robes and have made them white in the blood of the Lamb.'

There they are. There *we* are - the multitude who so wanted to be faithful, who at times got defeated, soiled by life, and bested by trials, wearing the bloodied garments of life's tribulations, but through it all clung to faith.

My friends, if this is not good news to you, you have never understood the gospel of grace."

- Brennan Manning
