Spring fever...

"It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is.
And when you’ve got it, you want —
oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want,
but it just fairly makes your heart ache,
you want it so!"

enough snow...

Had enough snow?

Friends of ours went to Jamaica recently...
no snow there.
At one of the restaurants they ate breakfast,
was this peacock. We were told...

“His name is Henry and he roosts
on the roof above the main restaurant.
He annoys the servers.
We rather liked him especially
when he fanned his gorgeous feathers
(or are they plumes).
He comes down off the roof in the morning
when we and others had breakfast.
Loved to strut around the tables
and hoped to get whatever
dropped on the boards there.”
- Darlene Frey

We all have our good points
and our bad ones.
None of us, like Henry are perfect.
Perhaps we ought to concentrate
on the good in everything
and trust in God.

"The longer I live, the more I realize
the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.
It is more important than the past,
than education, than money, than circumstances,
than failures, than successes,
than what other people think or say or do.
It is more important than appearance,
giftedness or skill.
It will make or break a company...a church....a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day
regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.
We cannot change our past...
we cannot change the fact that people
will act in a certain way.
We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play
on the one string we have,
and that is our attitude...
I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me
and 90% how I react to it.
And so it is with you...
we are in charge of our attitudes.”

Not quite reminiscent of FDR,
we enjoyed discussing worldly events
and perhaps some things a bit more lighthearted too.

"I could not, at any age,
be content to take my place
by the fireside and simply look on.
Life was meant to be lived.
Curiosity must be kept alive.
One must never, for whatever reason,
turn his back on life."

snow storm part 2...

12:00 (noon)

Almost twenty (20) inches at this point
and more coming down and more on the way.

Still predicting 30 inches, more or less.
This part 2 (of the snowstorm)
is in lieu of missing yesterdays SonRays.

These were my two helpers from next door
coming to assist in snow removal...
Becky and Sam Lowe.
Nice to have such good neighbors and friends.
All of us need each other.

winter storm...

early morning

Well, we have over a foot now
and more on the way.
Time taken – 9:00 AM

We could get around 30 inches, or so they predict.
Time to stay in, hunker down, and wait it out.
Will attempt to snow blow later today.

Meanwhile, this is a great time
to read your Bible, devotionals,
and communicate with God.

better safe than sorry...

Better safe than sorry...
I remember my mother telling me that
a long time ago.

In this case, it refers to protecting yourself.
This screenshot from the game Fallout 4
shows that you must be well armed, protected,
and be very careful
when venturing through unknown abandoned buildings.

Your greatest protection in our real world
comes through our trust in God.
It also requires that we love Him
and develop a close personal relationship with Him.
I pray that you have such a relationship.
And I pray for God's abundant blessings to you...
physical, mental, and spiritual!

His love is for ALL of us,
no matter who we are or what we do.

"Trusting God is simply believing that He loves you,
He’s good, He has the power to help you,
He wants to help you, and He will help you."

Christmas memories...

remembering Christmas

It is fun to remember all the fun
and fellowship of Christmas.
The decorations, the lit tree, the presents,
the joy and laughter, the food, the music...
all bring many smiles and a warm glow.

We should remember Christmas all year round
for its true meaning and for the freedom
and forgiveness we now have in Jesus Christ.
Be joyful and full of peace, for no matter
what our worldly circumstances,
we have experienced salvation.

I pray God may richly bless you all, always!

the dark tunnel...

"But, by the grace of our good God,
you can 'get through' the dark tunnel of grief.
There is drastic difference in 'getting over' something
and 'getting through' something.
The amputee will never 'get over' losing his leg,
but with the help of God, he can 'get through' it.
If we are to grow in our Christian walk,
we cannot skip and 'go over'
every dark and uncomfortable tunnel
that comes our way.
Instead, we must see the dark seasons of life
in the light of God’s love,
and know that He has our best interest in mind
as we 'go through' them."
- Eric Martin

It is the light that guides up through it."

"One of the marvelous things about community
is that it enables us to welcome
and help people in a way
we couldn't as individuals.

we can welcome many people,

and perhaps help them find
self-confidence and inner healing.”

"There is so much about my fate
that I cannot control,
but other things do fall under the jurisdiction.
I can decide how I spend my time,
whom I interact with,
whom I share my body and life
and money and energy with.
I can select what I can read and eat and study.
I can choose how I'm going to regard
unfortunate circumstances in my life -
whether I will see them
as curses or opportunities.
I can choose my words
and the tone of voice
in which I speak to others.
And most of all,
I can choose my thoughts."

standing strong...

standing strong

When coming into Lexington, MA, (the game, Fallout 4)
I saw one of the statues still standing.
It reminded me of the importance of standing strong
among all the turmoil, despair,
destruction, hatred of our chaotic world.

"My scars remind me that I did indeed
survive my deepest wounds.
That in itself is an accomplishment.
And they bring to mind something else, too.
They remind me that the damage
life has inflicted on me has, in many places,
left me stronger and more resilient.
What hurt me in the past
has actually made me better equipped
to face the present."

Live Nativity

This was taken during the
Drive Through Bethlehem
that our church does every year
prior to Christmas.

"Certainly our goal is both lofty and difficult to attain.
But please do not forget that people are not born holy.
Holiness is forged through a constant interplay
of God's grace and the correspondence of man.
As one of the early Christian writers says,
referring to union with God,
'Everything that grows begins small.
It is by constant and progressive feeding
that it gradually grows big.'"
- St. Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year

Well, all last nights celebrating is over,
and 2016 has begun.
Everything, including the "ball" has been dropped.
Today we have pork and sauerkraut for lunch/dinner
to bring "good luck" for the coming year,
or so the tradition goes.

I pray that everyone has a very blessed New Year.
