Growing together in the Spirit of Jesus Christ...

"Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:25 NIV

seek the solitude of nature...

seek the solitude of nature

"It is a commonplace of all religious thought,
even the most primitive,
that the man seeking visions and insight
must go apart from his fellows
and love for a time in the wilderness."

the Christmas tree...

the Christmas tree

...freshly cut Christmas trees
smelling of stars and snow and pine resin -
inhale deeply and
fill your soul with wintry night...”

- John Geddes

Thank you, Dear Creator, for Life.
Thank you for Dreams.
Thank you for Ideas and Thoughts and Feelings.
Most of all, thank you for choosing me to grow -
just for today -
and to know the Wonder of Your World
and its many Possibilities.”

believe in yourself...

believe in yourself

"At the end of the day,
always remember that You Are Important.
STOP comparing yourself to everyone else.
Value, appreciate and learn from others,
but don't cut yourself short.
We all have unique abilities and talents.
Always remain Humble and Kind
but believe in yourself
and appreciate Your Own Value."

faith...

faith

"[To have Faith in Christ] means, of course,
trying to do all that He says.
There would be no sense in saying
you trusted a person
if you would not take his advice.
Thus if you have really
handed yourself over to Him,
it must follow that you are trying to obey Him.
But trying in a new way, a less worried way.
Not doing these things in order to be saved,
but because He has begun to save you already.
Not hoping to get to Heaven
as a reward for your actions,
but inevitably wanting to act in a certain way
because a first faint gleam
of Heaven is already inside you."

- C.S. Lewis

be thankful...

Be Thankful

"Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don’t know something
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you’re tired and weary
Because it means you’ve made a difference.
It is easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are
also thankful for the setbacks.

GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings."

I am grateful...

I am grateful

"I am grateful for what I am and have.
My thanksgiving is perpetual.
It is surprising how contented one can be
with nothing definite - only a sense of existence.
Well, anything for variety.
I am ready to try this
for the next ten thousand years, and exhaust it.
How sweet to think of
my extremities well charred,
and my intellectual part too,
so that there is no danger of worm
or rot for a long while.
My breath is sweet to me.
O how I laugh when I think
of my vague indefinite riches.
No run on my bank can drain it,
for my wealth is not possession
but enjoyment."

- Henry David Thoreau

patience...

patience precedes comfort

Last night when both my wife and I
were tucked in bed, the lights were out,
and we were ready to sleep,
my wife noticed something
very softly jumped up on the bed
and quietly lay down on the other side of her.
It appears that our one cat, Zembie,
was hiding under our bed and waited
for awhile before he decided
to sneak in with us.

"The two hardest tests on the spiritual road
are the patience to wait for the right moment
and the courage not to be disappointed
with what we encounter."

- Paulo Coelho

running away...

Like Jonah...
We spend so much time ignoring God,
and trying to run away from Him.

Why can't we be what He
wants us to be?

maintain hope and faith,,,

maintain hope and faith

Although suffering may come,
although pleasures and provision may run dry,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord.

The Lord, not my surroundings, is my salvation!

on fire for God...

on fire for God

Why is it said the David
was a man after God's own heart?
Most of us live our lives either cold
or at best lukewarm in our worship
of our God, our Lord, our Heavenly Father,
our Creator.
Some are even frozen.
David, although he sinned like we all do
was perhaps one of the few that
was “on fire” for God.

Love God with ALL your heart,
ALL your mind, ALL your spirit,
ALL your soul and you too
will be called a man or woman
after God's own heart.

peace on earth...

peace on earth

"And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said;
"For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!"

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth he sleep!
The Wrong shall fail,
the Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men!"

- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

reflection of the artist...

reflection of the artist

It is said that a work of art
is a reflection of the artist
and contains a bit of his spirit
and therefore we can get to know
the artist through his art.
Like any artist's work,
all of God's creation reflects Himself
and contains a bit of His Spirit.
What I strive to do
is to capture that Spirit
as seen through my enriched spirit
given through the salvation by Jesus Christ.

spiritual war...

spiritual war

Wars and rumor of wars abound,
but the war with which we should be most concerned
is as old as earth's creation...
the war against self
and the power of evil against us.

"Then the dragon was enraged at the woman
and went off to wage war against
the rest of her offspring -
those who keep God’s commands
and hold fast their testimony about Jesus."

- Revelation 12:17 NIV

defense?

defense

It has been recently said by several
that we need to increase our
military strength and defense.
Even with a strong military
we cannot trust in that alone.

Without faith and trust in God
we might as well be completely defenseless.
Until our leaders understand this
and trust in God first,
instead of relying on our might,
we are like the Philistines
and Goliath.

...it is not by sword or spear
that the Lord saves;
for the battle is the Lord’s...”

creating...

presentation and meal
by Lee Keefer

Whether a work of art, a musical masterpiece,
a literary classic, or a well prepared meal
with outstanding presentation...
what stands out as the major ingredient
is the love that goes into the making.
And that love and those gifts comes ultimately
from one source... God the Creator.

"For in him all things were created:
things in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible,
whether thrones or powers
or rulers or authorities;
all things have been created
through him and for him."

- Colossians 1:16 NIV

a place...

Chalfonte porch

This is a place to relax, read,
fellowship, meditate, and pray.
(and perhaps to take a nap).
Good morning everyone!

"Father, thank You for the incredible joy
and privilege of knowing You.
Help me to seek after You today
as You reveal Your will and Your ways to me.
Give me understanding in what You desire for me,
so I can glorify You and be a blessing to others today.
Amen."

olden times...

stepping back in time
(Chalfonte lobby)

Recently we stayed
at the historic Chalfonte Hotel
in Cape May, New Jersey.
Established in 1876, The historic Chalfonte Hotel,
the Old Girl, the Grand Dame,
the Leading Lady, the Place that Time Forgot,
is recognized as the oldest
continuously operating hotel in Cape May,
America's Original Seaside Resort.

I love places like this.

The gate of Memory swings,
And my heart goes into the garden
And walks with the olden things."

After recently posting a photo of my cat Kokomo,
my other cat, Zembie wanted his taken too...
here he is daydreaming.

Trinity entwined...

Trinity entwined

I seem to see the Trinity in so many places...
my eye is drawn to these sightings of three.
This one is extremely powerful to me
because of the way the three flowers
projected from a single stem
and caused the blooms to entwine.

"Both the holiness and happiness of the Godhead
consists in this love.
As we have already proved,
all creature holiness consists essentially
and summarily in love to God
and love to other creatures;
so does the holiness of God consist in his love,
especially in the perfect and intimate union
and love there is between
the Father and the Son [and the Holy Spirit]."

detachment

Another photo from our walk Sunday
around Founders Hall, Hershey.
To find peace we need to detach ourselves
from all the worry and strife of this world.

needs but one thing, detachment."

bad weather?

Fall has just about completed falling
and winter is around the bend.
But you wouldn't know it
for the temperatures forecast
over the rest of this week here...
in the low 70's...
in November.

"We often hear of bad weather,
but in reality, no weather is bad.
It is all delightful, though in different ways.
Some weather may be bad for farmers or crops,
but for man all kinds are good.
Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing,
wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating.
As Ruskin says,
'There is really no such thing as bad weather,
only different kinds of good weather.'"

measures the depth...

My wife and I enjoyed our Sunday morning...
after church we went to a favorite place
in the woods for breakfast,
then took a walk around Founder's Hall in Hershey.
The sun was finally coming out
after an overcast morning and a brief early rain...
the air was sweet and there was a light breeze...
wonderful time for a walk.
This is one of the scenes from that walk.

"A lake is a landscape's most beautiful
and expressive feature.
It is Earth's eye;
looking into which the beholder
measures the depth of his own nature."

- Henry David Thoreau
