Growing together in the Spirit of Jesus Christ...

secluded life...

secluded life

"I have lived through much,
and now I think I have found
what is needed for happiness.
A quiet secluded life in the country,
with the possibility of being useful
to people to whom it is easy to do good,
and who are not accustomed
to have it done to them;
then work which one hopes may be of some use;
then rest, nature, books,
music, love for one's neighbor...
such is my idea of happiness."

your whole body will be full of darkness.
If then the light within you is darkness,
how great is that darkness!"

sweeter life...

sweeter life

This is an old guy (70, yesterday)
looking over the pastry section of his
birthday breakfast buffet.

Nothing is sweeter, more satisfying,
more rewarding then a personal relationship
with the Trinity...
God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

And that won't add to the calorie count.

"One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple."

46 years as one...

Larry and Faye
(46 years, today, as one)

My daughter tells me that the 46th anniversary
is the anniversary of the poem.
Now I cannot write poetry,
but I found this poem which is perfect...
it is called...

"Not a day goes by,
that I don't wish you know how much I love you.
Not a day goes by,
that I don't wish better for you.
My love is like a river, it is like a fountain;
it is longing and flowing for you.
No matter what hard times we've been through,
My love has kept on growing for you.
I hope you can see,
that it is you I need.
I know we are bound for a higher life,
where we won't bear anymore strife.
Yet, in the still of this life,
not a day goes by,
that I'm not praying for you,
and still loving you."

We all need to eat and sometimes
we can even indulge in fun food,
like burgers.
Top That in Palmyra, PA
is known for their burgers.
It is a small place and seating is limited,
but so worth it.

You must find yourself a place,
and yes, it can be a small, private place
to feed your Spiritual hunger.
It, you will find,
is even more rewarding than a good burger.

"Thy will be done, my Lord.
Because you know the weakness
in the heart of your children,
and you assign each of them
only the burden they can bear.
May you understand my love –
because it is the only thing
I have that is really mine,
the only thing that I will be able
to take with me into the next life.
Please allow it to be courageous and pure;
please make it capable of
surviving the snares of the world."

a different sunset

"Every sunset is different,
because every day the sun is different,
clouds are different, space is different,
reflections are different, mountains are different,
fogs are different, and above all, we are different!"

- Mehmet Murat ildan

I pray with every sunset
you are closer to your dream,
closer to peace and joy,
closer to our God.

"Peter denied Jesus; Judas betrayed Jesus.
The bad news was that both of them
fell off the track and were both filled with regrets,
remorse and anguish...
However it was only Peter
who chose to rise again after falling!
If you fall, you can rise again!"

- Israelmore Ayivor

so that we can see clearly again.

nobody is perfect...

"Nobody is perfect."

Do not let the reality of this statement
become an excuse for not trying to be better.

And remember that your loving God
has provided for your salvation
through the death and resurrection
of His perfect Son, Jesus Christ,
so that you may be forgiven
for all your imperfections.

Where does your security lie?
Is God your refuge, your hiding place,
your stronghold, your shepherd, your counselor,
your friend, your redeemer, your saviour, your guide?
If He is, you don't need to search any further for security.”

"Some readers cannot enjoy the shepherds
because they know (or they say they know)
that real country people are not more happy
or more virtuous than any one else;
but it would be tedious here to explain to them
the many causes (reasons too)
that have led humanity to symbolize
by rural scenes and occupations
a region in the mind which does exist
and which should be visited often."

looking up and at...

looking up and at

It is a very human thing (even more so today)
to assign labels to everything, including people.
Oh, he believes this or that and therefore he is...
People are enigmatic and more complicated than that.
To say that because I like a particular ball player
that just happens to play for this team or that,
then I am a fan of that ball club is just narrow-minded at best...
and to say that because I like his defense,
I also like his offense is also wrong...
or to say that because I like him as a ball player,
I also like his taste in automobiles is ridiculous.
To say that I like a particular quote and "what it says to me"
is nothing more than revering the man, is also wrong...
Here is a quote, for example... "I know God exists." - Satan.
This does not mean I revere Satan... far, far from it.
When Jesus met with a prostitute, or a tax-collector,
or any number of others, He looked at where their heart was,
and with only the authority that He has,
told them where they were wrong,
let them to continue making their own choice
and continued to love them unconditionally.
That does not say that we should not
let them know where we stand, or what we believe,
but to do so in love, and to pray that "we all"
do God's will in God's time, and not our will on our timetable.

If you must put a label on me,
call me a sinner, for that is what I am.
I am at the foot of the cross, at its very base.
Do not try to elevate me or think
I desire to be elevated by any of you or to elevate myself.
I am only one who wants to spend more time
looking up and at, rather than down and/or away.
And should the Lord, in His grace, lift me up,
I pray that each and every one of us
will be raised up together.

united to God...

united to God

"If you want to get warm you must stand near the fire:
if you want to be wet you must get into the water.
If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life,
you must get close to, or even into,
the thing that has them.
They are not a sort of prize which God could,
if He chose, hand out to anyone.
They are a great fountain of energy and beauty
spurting up at the very centre of reality.
If you are close to it, the spray will wet you:
if you are not, you will remain dry.
Once a man is united to God,
how could he not live forever?
Once a man is separated from God,
what can he do but wither and die."

- C.S. Lewis

"The first step toward creating an improved future
is developing the ability to envision it.
VISION will ignite the fire of passion
that fuels our commitment to do
WHATEVER IT TAKES to achieve excellence.
Only VISION allows us to transform dreams of greatness
into the reality of achievement through human action.
VISION has no boundaries and knows no limits.
Our VISION is what we become in life."

amazing grace...

amazing grace

“Because salvation is by grace through faith,
I believe that among the countless number of people
standing in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb,
dressed in white robes and holding palms in their hands
(see Revelation 7:9),
I shall see the prostitute from the Kit-Kat Ranch in
Carson City, Nevada, who tearfully told me
that she could find no other employment
to support her two-year-old son.
I shall see the woman who had an abortion
and is haunted by guilt and remorse but did
the best she could faced with grueling alternatives;
the businessman besieged with debt who
sold his integrity in a series of desperate transactions;
the insecure clergyman addicted to being liked,
who never challenged his people
from the pulpit and longed for unconditional love;
the sexually abused teen molested by his father
and now selling his body on the street,
who, as he falls asleep each night
after his last 'trick', whispers the name
of the unknown God he learned about in Sunday school.

'But how?' we ask.

Then the voice says,
'They have washed their robes and
have made them white in the blood of the Lamb.'

There they are. There *we* are -
the multitude who so wanted to be faithful,
who at times got defeated, soiled by life,
and bested by trials,
wearing the bloodied garments of life's tribulations,
but through it all clung to faith.

My friends, if this is not good news to you,
you have never understood the gospel of grace.”

only necessary to love...

I was introduced to this book
when researching a name for my new female avatar...
one which I will be using... as occasion
and topic dictate.
The book came highly recommended.
It is an excellent child's book and
is a great way to introduce a child,
particularly a female,
to the world of art.

"People discuss my art
and pretend to understand,
as if it were necessary to understand,
when it's simply necessary to love."

- Claude Monet

continue to grow...

Khao Niaow Ma Muang
(mango sticky rice)

This mango sticky rice dessert,
that my daughter makes,
has become a favorite.
It is a Thai classic.
I love to try different things,
at least once. :)
Growth is essential...
physical, mental, and above all,
spiritual growth...
for a complete life experience.

"The only way that we can live, is if we grow.
The only way that we can grow is if we change.
The only way that we can change is if we learn.
The only way we can learn is if we are exposed.
And the only way that we can become exposed
is if we throw ourselves out into the open.
Do it. Throw yourself."

true beauty...

true beauty

"The beauty of a woman
is not in the clothes she wears,
the figure that she carries,
or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman
is seen in her eyes,
because that is the doorway to her heart,
the place where love resides.
True beauty in a woman
is reflected in her soul."

penetrate things...

penetrate things

"Spirituality is not to be learned
by flight from the world,
or by running away from things,
or by turning solitary
and going apart from the world.
Rather, we must learn an inner solitude
wherever or with whomsoever we may be.
We must learn to penetrate things
and find God there."
