Growing together in the Spirit of Jesus Christ...

"Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:25 NIV

During my brief stay in Second Life,
I was honored to have a small exhibit
of some of my real life photography
in an upstairs gallery above a sim coffee shop.
Something to dream about...
my very own photographic gallery...
perhaps along with appropriate quotes. :)

or to dream a new dream."

Waiting can be hard, however...

"I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.”
- Psalm 130:5 NIV

"Those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.”
- Isaiah 40:31 NIV

"If the Lord Jehovah makes us wait,
let us do so with our whole hearts;
for blessed are all they that wait for Him.
He is worth waiting for.
The waiting itself is beneficial to us:
it tries faith, exercises patience, trains submission,
and endears the blessing when it comes.”

- Charles Spurgeon

"Biblically, waiting is not just something
we have to do until we get what we want.
Waiting is part of the process
of becoming what God wants us to be.”

first date anniversary...

Anniversary of 1st date

Yesterday, the 23rd, was the anniversary
of our first date.
It was a double date and a blind date
set up for us by two friends.
We went to see the movie,
“Guess Who is Coming to Dinner”.
After, we had a butterscotch sundae
at the Ramona.
That was 47 years ago.

Each year on this date we now
split a “small” butterscotch sundae.

the happiness of another person
is essential to your own."

- Robert A. Heinlein

"It's funny how,
in this journey of life,
even though we may begin
at different times and places,
our paths cross with others
so that we may share our love,
compassion, observations, and hope.
This is a design of God
that I appreciate and cherish."

- Steve Maraboli

is not so much where we stand
as in what direction we are moving."

A new body, a new life,
attainment of a new height.
Use your new life in Jesus
to soar to new heights...
to attain everything
God meant for you.

And remember that the butterfly
had to go through the period of the cocoon
and the struggle to free itself from that confinement.
God will enable you to do this.
Trust in Him.

"To begin to think with purpose
is to enter the ranks of those strong ones
who only recognize failure
as one of the pathways to attainment."

- James Allen

Just like we can forecast the weather
through signs, we can see
through many different signs,
and through prophecy,
that our Lord will come soon.

No one can predict when that will occur...
but I tell you this...
it is closer than it was 100 years ago;
closer than 10 years ago;
closer than it was yesterday.

TRUST in Him...
He is coming soon, very soon.
Prepare yourself and tell others...
you know who needs to be told,
and what they need to do.
If you already have told them,
then gently and lovingly,
tell them again!

Time is running out.

honest differences...

honest differences

"Friendship that insists upon agreement
on all matters is not worth the name.
Friendship to be real must ever sustain
the weight of honest differences,
however sharp they be."

I took this photo years ago
with an older point and shoot camera,
12X zoom fully extended.
It was also cropped quite a bit.
The young lady was playing on top of
a dinosaur sculpture (if my memory is correct).
She turned her head quickly
to look behind her and I snapped the shutter.
Her flying hair was back lit.
This was shot at a craft fair
near a small rural town.
Even though the quality and size
of the photo does not allow for much
of a display or a hard print,
it is still one of my favorite "people" captures.
I titled it... carefree.
We should all be allowed to be
so carefree and happy to just be alive.

"Humble yourselves, therefore,
under God’s mighty hand,
that he may lift you up in due time.
Cast all your anxiety on him
because he cares for you."

led to the light...

led to the light

We journey through a dark and stormy world,
but if we stay on the path of righteousness
and accept Jesus Christ, the Son of God,
as our Savior, we will be led to the light
of His eternal presence and dwell
with Him forever.

"Rain is grace; without rain,
there would be no life."

I have used this photograph
several times in a devotional here
in Sonrays.

This was taken quite a few years ago
with an older point and shoot camera and
required a bit of contortion on my part.
Laying flat on my back and turning to the side,
looking up, I managed to capture this
rather proud looking flower with the
background of an approaching storm.
It wasn't long after this was taken that
it started to pour.

I honestly do not think, with all the
aches and pains of an older body,
that I could capture this again...
perhaps... but I would probably need
someone to help me get up.

Today I found another quote that fits
this image so well.

"Faith is not a delicate flower
which would wither away
under the slightest stormy weather."

Mahatma Gandhi

It was a cold, wintery night in Skyrim
when the adventurers happened upon
this ruin of a building.
The fireplace was still intact
and there was semi-dry firewood nearby.
The old building provided some shelter
from the snow and wind and the fire
added a bit of warmth.

"There is a place so pure and true,
beyond your deep and restless thoughts
you'll find an imaginative longitude for dear shelter,
completely lost in time...
It's made of love, of magic dreams,
where you can be yourself and free..."
- Oksana Rus

"You should avoid seeing too much of yourself anywhere:
in the outside world, in others,
in the imagined worlds that give you shelter."
- John Darnielle

The best place to take shelter,
and find peace and joy,
is with the Lord.

"Those who dwell in the shelter of the Lord
will find safety within His wing.
God, my refuge, my fortress and my shield!
All my trust, I place in You.

Those who make their dwelling with the Lord
are protected throughout their days."

(PSALM 91)

appreciate being alive...

appreciate being alive

It was said of a very famous photographer
(Edward Weston, I think),
that he liked to ease his way into the day.
I feel exactly the same.
Get up early,
get out of bed with a smile on your face,
grab a cup of coffee,
find somewhere to really appreciate being alive,
most importantly... praise God...
and ease your way into the day!

"It is in the early morning hour
that the unseen is seen,
and that the far-off beauty and glory,
vanquishing all their vagueness,
move down upon us till they stand
clear as crystal close over against the soul."

- Sarah Smiley

paw prints...

paw prints

Yesterday morning I awoke
to a thin layer of ice/snow
on the driveway.
Embedded in this were tracks,
I surmised, of a neighborhood cat.

Cats leave paw prints on your heart
as well as on the driveway.

art of observation...

art of observation
"To me, photography is an art of observation.
It's about finding something interesting
in an ordinary place...
I've found it has little to do
with the things you see
and everything to do with
the way you see them."

- Elliott Erwitt

invisible bridges...

invisible bridges

What looks ahead to be a
precipitous drop
from a dead-end road,
a bridge is built
to the side, with a shrine
at the other end,
and proceeds up into
the mountain by a path.
Sometimes, although we see
no way out, appears
an escape to our problem...
one that leads us closer to
our Lord and Savior.

"When will we ever learn that
there are no hopeless situations,
only people who have grown
hopeless about them?
What appears as an unsolvable problem to us
is actually a rather exhilarating challenge.
People who inspire others are those
who see invisible bridges
at the end of dead-end streets."

"Serendipity occurs when something beautiful
breaks into the monotonous and the mundane.
A serendipitous life is marked by
'surprisability' and spontaneity.
When we lose our capacity for either,
we settle into life's ruts.
We expect little and we're seldom disappointed.
Though I have walked with God
for several decades, I must confess
I still find much about Him
incomprehensible and mysterious.

But this much I know:
He delights in surprising us.
He dots our pilgrimage from earth to heaven
with amazing serendipities."

beyond reasons...

beyond reasons

"If you fall in love because someone makes you laugh,
what happens when you no longer find them funny?
If you fall in love because someone is beautiful,
what happens when that beauty fades?
If you fall in love because someone can provide for you,
what happens when they lose wealth?
Real love defies all reasons.
When you truly love someone,
you do not look for reasons, you see beyond reasons."

more winter...

more winter

Well, the groundhog saw his shadow...
so six more weeks of winter.
To confirm this, I checked with a hibernating bear.
He wasn't pleased that I awoke him so early...
he has six more weeks to sleep.

So there you go...
don't put away the snow blower,
the snow shovels, or the salt,
and forget about putting on your
summer clothes.

Look on the bright side...
six more weeks to cuddle up
with your significant other
in front of the fireplace.

"Winter is the time for comfort,
for good food and warmth,
for the touch of a friendly hand
and for a talk beside the fire:
it is the time for home."

Souper Bowl Sunday...

Souper Bowl Sunday

Are you hungry for a winning combination?
Well, I don't much care for either
of these souper powers...
I will stick to my Tomato Rice.

Deflated croutons anyone?
