Growing together in the Spirit of Jesus Christ...

"Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:25 NIV

broken...

broken

We live in a complicated world.
So many choices, so many sale schemes...
all to cater to our wants and desires,
and to make us think we are
getting the best possible deal.
When, in reality the best deal
is to buy only what we need.

Even then, because of this
broken world
(a human creation)...
we now have “needs”
we never had before.

I long for a simpler life.

Until then, it is imperative
that we develop an inner peace
that only comes from an intimate
lasting relationship with God.

Without that peace and joy
we run a very real risk
of becoming broken ourselves.

ones that got away...

ones that got away

The day before Thanksgiving
we had 15 wild turkeys in the backyard.
Now there were only these seven.
Did the rest end up as someone's
Thanksgiving meal?
No, the rest of the flock was seen
across the road, so all 15,
plus two new ones,
were accounted for.

"If you want to save a species,
simply decide to eat it.
Then it will be managed --
like chickens, like turkeys,
like deer, like Canadian geese."

- Ted Nugent

No Americans have been more impoverished

set aside a day of thanksgiving."

card cat

Our one cat loves to be with us
as much as he can.
He enjoys playing the card game 500.
Sometimes he offers catty advice.
Sometimes he just shakes his head.

"I have studied many philosophers and many cats.
The wisdom of cats is infinitely superior."

"Our fear of death is like
our fear that summer will be short,
but when we have had our swing of pleasure,
our fill of fruit and our swelter of heat,
we say we have had our day."

it was a reminder...
no matter how old you became

things could still be new

they still mattered.

Blueberry Pie

This was my first blueberry pie.
I had a good instructor
throughout the whole process...
my daughter.
And was it soooo good!

Novelle
(Second Life snapshot)

This photo from Second Life
has the appearance of a painting.
Does Mona Lisa come to mind?

"The interest in life does not lie in what people do,
nor even in their relations to each other,
but largely in the power
to communicate with a third party...
enigmatic, yet perhaps persuadable,
which one may call life in general."

- Virginia Woolf

a younger me...

a younger me
(Second Life snapshot)

"People grow old only by deserting their ideals.
Years may wrinkle the skin,
but to give up interest wrinkles the soul.
You are as young as your faith,
as old as your doubt;
as young as your self-confidence,
as old as your fear;
as young as your hope
as old as your despair.
In the central place of every heart
there is a recording chamber.
So long as it receives messages of
beauty, hope, cheer and courage,
so long are you young.
When your heart is covered
with the snows of pessimism
and the ice of cynicism,
then, and then only, are you grown old."

- Douglas MacArthur

At the same farm as yesterday's SonRays,
after I took that photo,
I looked down and saw this guy.
I think perhaps he would have followed me home.

two thieves...

Two thieves...
one of each side of Jesus

One accepted salvation (white cross),
the other one did not (black cross).

One of the criminals who hung there
hurled insults at him:
'Aren’t you the Messiah?
Save yourself and us!'
But the other criminal rebuked him.
'Don’t you fear God,' he said,
'since you are under the same sentence?
We are punished justly,
for we are getting what our deeds deserve.
But this man has done nothing wrong.”
Then he said, 'Jesus, remember me
when you come into your kingdom.'
Jesus answered him,
'Truly I tell you, today

you will be with me in paradise.'”

"As a single footstep will not
make a path on the earth,
so a single thought will not

To make a deep physical path,
we walk again and again.
To make a deep mental path,
we must think over and over
the kind of thoughts
we wish to dominate our lives."

Some of the best food comes
from not so grand restaurants.

Serve customers the best-tasting food

comfortable restaurant,
and they'll keep coming back."

attitude...

attitudes

"The longer I live, the more I realize
the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.
It is more important than the past,
the education, the money,
than circumstances, than failure,
than successes,
than what other people think or say or do.
It is more important than appearance,
giftedness or skill.
It will make or break a company...
a church... a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice
everyday regarding the attitude
we will embrace for that day.
We cannot change our past...
we cannot change the fact that people
will act in a certain way.
We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play
on the one string we have,
and that is our attitude.
I am convinced that life is 10%
what happens to me
and 90% of how I react to it.
And so it is with you...
we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

lost sheep...

joy in heaven

"What man of you,
if he has a hundred sheep
and should lose one of them,
does not leave the ninety-nine
in the wilderness (desert)
and go after the one
that is lost until he finds it?
And when he has found it,
he lays it on his [own] shoulders, rejoicing.
And when he gets home,
he summons together [his] friends
and [his] neighbors, saying to them,
Rejoice with me, because
I have found my sheep which was lost.

Thus, I tell you,
there will be more joy in heaven
over one [[a]especially] wicked person
who repents ([b]changes his mind,
abhorring his errors and misdeeds,
and determines to enter upon
a better course of life)
than over ninety-nine righteous persons
who have no need of repentance."

- Luke 15:4-7 AMP

empathy...

empathy
(far from perfect)

...everywhere I look I see myself.
There I go: that bald man, this angry child,
that fearful cat, that cool stone,
that bubbling brook,
that worm struggling for its life,
that bird desperate to feed her hungry babies,
that one trapped in his rage,
this one anxious but fearful of finding out why.
Hardly strangers!
Empathy is the life of the soul, I think,
because the soul that allows us to see
the one in the other
is the soul that finds joy.”

Oh! who would inhabit
This bleak world alone?"
