cottage...

cottage
(Second Life snapshot)

I found this little cottage,
right outside of Moon Village,
in the virtual world of Second Life.

"I had rather be shut up
in a very modest cottage with my books,
my family and a few old friends,
dining on simple bacon,
and letting the world roll on as it liked,
than to occupy the most splendid post,
which any human power can give."

Cyber Church...

CyberChurch
(Second Life snapshot)

This last Sunday, after attending my
in real life church, I attended
a cyber church on Second Life.
This is on every Sunday at 2:00 PM EST.

Both messages were very well done.

"Revivals begin with God's own people;
the Holy Spirit touches their heart anew,
and gives them new fervor and compassion,
and zeal, new light and life,
and when He has thus come to you,
He next goes forth to the valley of dry bones...
Oh, what responsibility this lays on the Church of God!
If you grieve Him away from yourselves,
or hinder His visit,
then the poor perishing world suffers sorely!"

fall equinox...

Fall Equinox
(Second Life snapshot)

"Just after the death of the flowers,
And before they are buried in snow,
There comes a festival season,
When nature is all aglow—
Aglow with a mystical spendour
That rivals the brightness of spring,
Aglow with a beauty more tender
Than aught which fair summer could bring...."

Garden of Compassion
(Second Life snapshot)

"After sleeping through a hundred million centuries
we have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet,
sparkling with color, bountiful with life.
Within decades we must close our eyes again.
Isn’t it a noble, an enlightened way
of spending our brief time in the sun,
to work at understanding the universe
and how we have come to wake up in it?
This is how I answer when I am asked
- as I am surprisingly often -
why I bother to get up in the mornings."

- Richard Dawkins

the miracle of now...

the miracle of now
(Second Life snapshot)

"For most of my life
I have thought of grace
as a hope of a bright tomorrow
in spite of the darkness of today –
and this is true.
In this way we are all like Pamela,
walking a road to grace –
hoping for mercy.
What we fail to realize
is that grace is more
than our destination,
it is the journey itself,
manifested in each breath
and with each step we take.
Grace surrounds us,
whirls about us like the wind,
falls on us like rain.
Grace sustains us on our journeys,
no matter how perilous they may be
and, make no mistake,
they are all perilous.
We need not hope for grace,
we merely need to open our eyes
to its abundance.
Grace is all around us,
not just in the hopeful future
but in the miracle of now."

- Richard Paul Evans

best of cheer...

best of cheer
(Second Life snapshot)

...September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather,
And autumn’s best of cheer.”

- Helen Hunt Jackson

Somewhere along the way,
I realized that the new year
doesn’t begin for me in January.
The new and fresh has always
come for me in the Fall.
Ironically, as leaves are falling like rain,
crunching beneath my feet with finality,
I am vibrating with the excitement
of birth and new beginnings....
My year begins in Autumn.”

"To attain inner peace
you must actually give your life,
not just your possessions.
When you at last give your life –
bringing into alignment your beliefs
and the way you live then,
and only then, can you begin
to find inner peace."

old aisles of nature...

old aisles of nature

"The human soul is slow to discover
the real excellence of things
given to us by a bountiful Creator,
and not until the shadows of death
begin to gather around
the object that we love,
do we see its worth and beauty.
Autumn is the dim shadow
that clusters about the sweet,
precious things that God
has created in the realm of nature.
While it robs them of life,
it tears away the veil
and reveals the golden gem
of beauty and sweetness.
Beauty lurks in all the dim
old aisles of nature,
and we discover it at last."

open my eyes...

open my eyes

The glare was terrible for this shot,
but I have, for the month of September,
an exhibit of some of my work,
at the St. Thomas Roasters
coffee house in Linglestown, PA,
running now through the month
of September, 2014.

This exhibit contains two recently shown
photographs from a juried art show
sponsored by the Susquehanna Art Museum,
in downtown Harrisburg, PA,
and four never exhibited photographs
from The Road Trip West...
one of which will be published
in the next issue of
Nature Photographers Magazine.

The title of this exhibit is...
“Open my eyes
that I may see wonderful things...”

- Psalm 119:18

I have been so blessed and I pray
that you will be too.

labor day...

labor day

I have the greatest respect for those who serve.
And a waitress, if good, labors a lot.
They deserve a good tip,
especially so if they do their job
like they enjoy it...
being friendly and helpful,
in addition to going about their chores.

"The real judges of your character
aren't your neighbors, your relatives,
or even the people you play bridge with.
The folks who really know you
are waiters, waitresses, and clerks."
