Growing together in the Spirit of Jesus Christ...

deer at birdbath...

deer at birdbath

It appears that the birds are not the only
creatures to appreciate the new location
of my birdbath.
My daughter took this shot
through the screen of our porch
with her iPhone.

"As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God."

A work of Art

"Nobody grows old merely
by living a number of years.
We grow old by deserting our ideals.
Years may wrinkle the skin,
but to give up enthusiasm
wrinkles the soul."

puppy love...

puppy love

We were introduced recently to this
great looking Yellow Lab puppy.
Rather large for a puppy
and with a big head and big paws.
When the rest of his body grows into those,
he is going to be one rather large dog.
We were very tempted... but
cooler heads prevailed,
although he did like my beard.

Not sure how our three cats would
like this much larger intruder
to their domain.
But in a different time and place...
who knows.
I would have named him Barnabas...
'son of encouragement'.

"There is no psychiatrist in the world
like a puppy licking your face."

old goat...

old goat

My wife once said to me
that she would like a goat.
I have no idea why...
after all she already has
an old goat... me.

“Neither lemonade nor anything else
can prevent the inroads of old age.
At present, I am stoical under its advances,
and hope I shall remain so.
I have but one prayer at heart;
and that is, to have my faculties
so far preserved that I can be useful,
in some way or other, to the last.”

"Use those talents you have.
You will make it.
You will give joy to the world.
Take this tip from nature:
The woods would be a very silent place
if no birds sang except those who sang best."

Understand to achieve anything
requires faith and belief in yourself,
vision, hard work,
determination, and dedication.
Remember all things are possible

- Gail Devers

It is a shame that you cannot
from these reproductions
tell much of a difference
in each of these 3 captures.

The top one is the first
and the bottom one is the last
of successive attempts
to fine tune this image.

The idea is to draw you into the photo
and direct the viewers eye toward
the mountain in the back center of the image.

Brightness, color, sharpness,
within the overall composition
were somewhat adjusted
with that in mind.

"My goal as a person and,

fleeting fashion, mass 'entertainment',
and other means of wasting
the precious thought and inspiration
we are each endowed with."

may never know...

we may never know

This pine tree was growing
on the side of a rocky hill.
Hidden and striving to live
under rough growing conditions.

"Most people have come to prefer
certain of life’s experiences
and deny and reject others,
unaware of the value of the hidden things
that may come wrapped in plain
and even ugly paper.
In avoiding all pain
and seeking comfort at all costs,
we may be left without intimacy or compassion;
in rejecting change and risk
we often cheat ourselves of the quest;
in denying our suffering we may never know
our strength or our greatness."

impressing the grandeur...

impressing the grandeur
north of Yellowstone
(road trip west)

"The beautiful scenery is there,
but it cares not for pleasing composition
or the quality of light at any moment in time.
This is where the artist comes in,
arranging in a frame
the scattered elements into a story,
anticipating and chasing the light,
bringing it all together to create
an evocative image capable of communicating
the visual experience and impressing
the grandeur of a fleeting moment
on viewers for generations to come."

forest for the trees...

Bachelor's buttons

Individual flowers deserve to be seen up close.
We spend far too little time appreciating
the detail in God's creation.

However, we shouldn't ignore the forest
for the trees either.
