Growing together in the Spirit of Jesus Christ...

"Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:25 NIV

peaceful setting...

peaceful setting

This is a house we pass on the way
to our daughter's place.
All of us admire this house...
a very peaceful setting.
It happens to also be the place
where we get our Christmas trees.
Your house and my house
does not have to be so grand
in order to be peaceful.
No matter how peaceful the setting may be,
true peace lies within your own heart.
My dad used to say that home
is where he hangs his hat.
What he was really saying is that
he can be at peace wherever
he happens to be.

That requires you to be at peace
within yourself.

look closely...

look closely

This is the center of a poinsettia bloom.
Believing in the unseen
is a problem for those
with no faith.
But no one with sight has an excuse
for seeing what can be seen,
simply by looking close.

God's wonders are limitless.

bald cardinal...

bald cardinal

This poor male cardinal
was infected with a disease
that caused him to lose his head feathers.

Not very attractive, he persevered.
Eventually his feathers came back
and he was as handsome as ever.

"Never think that God's delays
are God's denials.
Hold on; hold fast; hold out.
Patience is genius."

- Georges-Louis Leclerc

the day after...

the day after

Maggie is sad that the fun
of Christmas day is all over...
but we should keep the joy
of our salvation
within our heart always.

Christmas morning...

Christmas morning

Prepare your hearts and minds
for the true meaning of Christmas.

I pray everyone has a very blessed
and peaceful Christmas filled with joy.

the night before...

night before

Tomorrow will be a day of
celebration, feasting, opening presents,
sharing and loving...
but let us not forget to celebrate
the greatest gift of all...
the birth of our Savior,
Jesus Christ, our Lord,
the Son of God.

tea time...

tea time

This is a table display
in a favorite tea shop we frequent.
You may remember me as a avid
coffee drinker, but I too
like an occasional cup of tea.
My wife loves her tea.
One of my favorite teas
is called Monk's Blend.

"If you have one teapot
And can brew your tea in it
That will do quite well.
How much does he lack himself
Who must have a lot of things?"

- Charles N. Barnard

with an expectant hush,
rather than a last-minute rush."

out of the way...

out of the way

When we travel, I take photographs.
This and eating are two
of my favorite reasons to travel.
And of those captured images,
and places found while on a trip,
the most satisfying to me
are those “out of the way”...
not on the travel brochure...
gems of time and space.

So if someone asks me,
“Did you see the 'Crown Jewels'”?
My response is... no, but I did see
the most magnifient beggar/shack/weed...
and I didn't have to stand in a long line
to see something I couldn't even get close to.

"This seems to be
the law of progress
in everything we do;
it moves along a spiral
rather than a perpendicular;
we seem to be actually
going out of the way,
and yet it turns out that we were
really moving upward all the time."

- Francis E. Willard

real reason...

real reason

With all the secular symbolism of Christmas...
remember to keep Christ in Christmas...
the real reason to celebrate and be joyful!

Saint John's in the Wilderness

This is, perhaps, one of my best photographs.
The lighting was fantastic and
I really love it in black and white.

All my work I attribute to the Glory of God.
Soli Deo gloria

book stores...

Aaron's book store
Lititz, PA

A favorite book store
in a favorite town.
I love books and
I love book stores...
particularly where they offer
a comfy chair and good coffee.

Now I admit that most
of my reading these days
are done on an iPad,
but there is something
to holding and readng
a real book...
and they look great
on a bookshelf.
Therefore I justify
buying them now and again.

variable as the shade
photos by Erin Doyle

"In our hours of ease,
uncertain, coy,
and hard to please,
and variable as the shade,
by the light quivering aspen made;
when pain and anguish wring the brow,
a ministering angel thou."
- Sir Walter Scott

bleak midwinter...

Bleak Midwinter

"In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow
in the bleak midwinter, long ago."

- Christina G. Rossetti

hoarfrost/white frost

"The practical success of an idea,
irrespective of its inherent merit,
is dependent on the attitude of the contemporaries.
If timely it is quickly adopted;
if not, it is apt to fare like a sprout
lured out of the ground by warm sunshine,
only to be injured and retarded
in its growth by the succeeding frost."

- Nikola Tesla

getting to know You...

You can get to know the artist,
the musician, the sculptor
by studying their work.

In the same way,
you can get to know the Creator
by studying His creation...
even more so, because,
by seeking Him,
He gives us discernment
of all we see and experience.
