undecided

When we think of failure;
Failure will be ours.
If we remain undecided;
Nothing will ever change.
All we need to do
is want to achieve something great
and then simply to do it.
Never think of failure
for what we think,
will come about.”

- Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

filling station...

Filling Station

This is a popular diner
called The Filling Station...
a very good place for breakfast
and a freshly made donut.

We need more than our daily
fill of food however.
We need to be daily filled
with the Holy Spirit.

Let us thank God heartily
as often as we pray
that we have His Spirit in us
to teach us to pray.
Thanksgiving will draw our hearts
out to God and keep us engaged with Him;
it will take our attention from ourselves
and give the Spirit room in our hearts.”

ceases to dream...

ceases to dream

The question for each man to settle
is not what he would do
if he had means, time, influence
and educational advantages;
the question is what he will do
with the things he has.
The moment a young man ceases to dream
or to bemoan his lack of opportunities
and resolutely looks his conditions in the face,
and resolves to change them,
he lays the corner-stone
of a solid and honorable success.”

into the beautiful...

into the beautiful

As imperceptibly as Grief
The Summer lapsed away—
Too imperceptible at last
To seem like Perfidy—

A Quietness distilled
As Twilight long begun,
Or Nature spending with herself
Sequestered Afternoon—

The Dusk drew earlier in—
The Morning foreign shone—
A courteous, yet harrowing Grace,
As Guest, that would be gone—

And thus, without a Wing
Or service of a Keel
Our Summer made her light escape
Into the Beautiful.”

perfectly transparent...

perfectly transparent

Do you not know that there comes a midnight hour
when every one has to throw off his mask?
Do you believe that life will always let itself be mocked?
Do you think you can slip away a little
before midnight in order to avoid this?
Or are you not terrified by it?
I have seen men in real life
who so long deceived others
that at last their true nature could not reveal itself;...
In every man there is something
which to a certain degree prevents him
from becoming perfectly transparent to himself;
and this may be the case in so high a degree,
he may be so inexplicably woven
into relationships of life which
extend far beyond himself
that he almost cannot reveal himself.
But he who cannot reveal himself cannot love,
and he who cannot love
is the most unhappy man of all.”

talents/gifts

Yesterday I posted a photo
of the jazz band, Blue Silk and Satin.
This is a closeup of Patrick Frey...
mentioned yesterday as well.

This gentleman is very multi-talented.
You may have noticed that I have used
several of his outstanding photographs
in previous SonRays.

Talents/gifts are given to us by God.
We are to use them for His glory.

Every good and perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.”

make it better...

make it better

We were invited to hear
a fantastic jazz band this past Sunday.

What made it really special was
that one of the band members...
that guy playing the sax
(lower right, in the front)
is a good friend of ours,
Patrick Frey.

The last song they played,
a personal favorite of mine,
was “Hey Jude”.

Hey jude, don't make it bad.
Take a sad song and make it better.

And anytime you feel the pain, hey jude, refrain,
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders.”
- some lyrics from
Hey Jude

LEO

LEO
(let's eat out)

Once a month we try to get together
with my niece Jenni (far right)
and her friend (and ours too) Rhonda.
We take turns picking the place to eat out.

This month was our pick and my wife and I
chose a favorite place for breakfast...
Le Sorelle, in Mount Gretna, PA.

It is housed in an art gallery
at the edge of a wooded area.
Beautiful setting, quaint place,
and great food.

We all loved it.

Getting together with friends and family
for quality fellowship is so important
in our fast-paced society.

Our love to God is measured by
our everyday fellowship with others
and the love it displays.”

How Great Thou Art

How Great Thou Art

When through the woods
And forest glades I wander
I hear the birds
Sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down
From lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook
And feel the gentle breeze;

Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great thou art
How great thou art
Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art”

We are all wonderful, beautiful wrecks.

I've learned recently to love imperfection a lot
because it shines such a big light on God's grace.
And if someone has grace for you
that's when you feel their love the most
and they see you for who you are
and they love you anyway.”

asters and goldenrod.
They are in harmony with one another.

Happiness is when what you think,

    “Those persons who know

    the unfathomable peace
    that passeth all understanding,
    are always men and women

The fruit of love is service.

reading the signs...

reading the signs

This is a woolly bear caterpillar.
According to Dr. Curran one can perhaps
predict the coming winter weather.

This caterpillar has 13 distinct segments
of black and reddish brown.
The wider the middle brown section is,
according to legend, the milder the winter will be.
Actually, according to Mike Peters, an entomologist,
there may be a link between between
winter severity and the brown band of the woolly
bear caterpillar... but of the past winter,
not the upcoming one.

Predicting the weather through signs,
usually the sky,
was a common practice during the time of Jesus.

You know how to interpret
the appearance of the sky,
but you cannot interpret
the signs of the times.
A wicked and adulterous generation
looks for a miraculous sign,
but none will be given it
except the sign of Jonah.”

the right path...

the right path

I told her she needs
to think about her future.
And in order to do that,
she needs to be completely
clear-eyed about her past.

After all... We can't know
where we're going
until we know
from where we came.

It's not an easy journey.
It can be painful, arduous...
but if we have the courage
to face the truth...
it could lead to the right path.”
