Growing together in the Spirit of Jesus Christ...

"Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:25 NIV

June 30, 2011 (love the sinner... hate the sin)

love the sinner… hate the sin

“What a wonderful Savior we have.
It wasn’t lovely people for whose sake He died;
it was for ungodly people, for His enemies.
It was for law breakers that He suffered.
He loved us, says (the Apostle) Paul,
in spite of how unlovely we were.
Just as He loved us,
Paul insists we are to love one another.”
- Jay E. Adams

“I go further and say that there is a great need
in the contemporary world for more Christian anger.
We human beings compromise with sin
in a way in which God never does.
In the face of blatant evil
we should be indignant not tolerant,
angry, not apathetic.
If God hates sin, His people should hate sin too.
If evil arouses His anger,
it should arouse ours too.
What other reaction can wickedness
be expected to provoke
in those who love God?
- John Stott

Is this so hard to understand?

“Time is short. Eternity is long.
It is only reasonable that this short life
be lived in the light of eternity.”
- C.H. Spurgeon

“That only is worth my having which I can have forever.
That only is worth my grasping
which death cannot tear out of my hand.”
- C.H. Spurgeon

eternity to the wicked is a night that has no sunrise.”

June 28, 2011 (to gain hope)

to gain hope

“I lie awake; I have become
like a bird alone on a roof.”
- Psalm 102:7 NIV

David was in distress,
and yet He still trusted in the Lord.

“For the Lord will rebuild Zion
and appear in his glory.
He will respond to the prayer of the destitute;
he will not despise their plea.
Let this be written for a future generation,
that a people not yet created may praise the Lord…”
- Psalm 102:16-18 NIV

“If only for a moment,
take your eyes off yourself and your circumstances,
off the ways of this world and all rival claimants,
and look at who God is. Ponder His mighty deeds.
This isn’t to say your soul or circumstances aren’t important.
It simply means that you are in the hands of an omnipotent God
whose ability to act on your behalf
is equaled only by His passionate affection for you as His child,
whose strength is without end
and whose sovereignty covers the expanse of the heavens.
God’s desire isn’t to minimize your life and struggles and disappointments.
His intent is for you to gain hope,
knowing that nothing can wrench you
from the loving arms of a God like this!”
- Sam Storms

June 27, 2011 (kindness of God)

“See how the lilies of the field grow.
They do not labor or spin.
Yet I tell you that not even Solomon
in all his splendor
was dressed like one of these.”
- Matthew 6:28,29 NIV

“It seems the Bible goes out of its way
to portray the kindness of God
in stark contrast to
man’s total undeservedness.”
- Jerry Bridges

June 26, 2011 (too busy?)

too busy?

Looking forward to seeing a ball game,
watch a movie, play or party?

How about too busy with work,
attending meetings, working on a hobby?

I am concerned with the number of people
(including Christians)
that spend little time with our Lord, the Creator of all,
who loves and cares for us so much.

He is with us always and the only reason
that we appear to never hear from Him
is because we do not seek time with Him.
He is not going to force you.
That is not the way of love.
You must desire to be in His presence,
you must grow to love Him
with all your heart, your mind, your soul,
and in all your strength.

But the vast majority
spend little time seeking Him
and trying to get to know Him.

I honestly think many are scared
of developing a relationship with Him.
”What if He requires something of me?”
”I don’t want to give up control of my life.”

Look what happened to Adam and Eve.
They wanted more control and did not heed
the Lord’s command.

The Lord wants the best for us…
He wants to be able to reward us with many crowns
in an eternal life with Him. Think of your future
life with Him. Don’t just be satisfied
with getting into heaven (wonderful as that will be).
He desires so much more for us.
And He knows what is really in our heart.

“The weight of so many responsibilities and distractions
- even the worthwhile ones -
has a crushing effect on a person's relationship with Christ.
It ruins our taste for spiritual things.
It suppresses our exuberance for spiritual service.
It suffocates our passion for pursuing Christ
and the intimate relationship He offers.
It all grinds away at our soul.
Eventually, following Jesus starts to lose its luster.
The blessings and joys of walking with Him
are crowded out by myriad tiny details of life.”
- John MacArthur

“You wake up one day to realize
that you are busier than you've ever been,
but no deeper in the things of God
than you were years ago.”

June 25, 2011 (sweetest things in life)

sweetest things in life

“The best things in life are nearest:
Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes,
flowers at your feet, duties at your hand,
the path of right just before you.
Then do not grasp at the stars,
but do life's plain, common work as it comes,
certain that daily duties and daily bread
are the sweetest things in life.”
- Robert Louis Stevenson

“The secret of happiness, you see,
is not found in seeking more,
but in developing the capacity to enjoy less.”
-Socrates

June 24, 2011 (love in action)

love in action

“We need to develop a kind disposition,
to be sensitive to others and truly desire their happiness.
But sensitivity alone is not enough:
the grace of goodness impels us
to take action to meet those needs.”
- Jerry Bridges

“Life is short and we never have enough time
for gladdening the hearts of those
who travel the way with us.
Oh, be swift to love! Make haste to be kind.”
- Henri Amiel

“Kindness is love in action.”

June 23, 2011 (What kind of Christian are you?)

What kind of Christian are you?

“A Christian is not one who simply buys ‘fire insurance,’
who signs up just to avoid an unpleasant after life.
A Christian…repeatedly, is one whose faith
expresses itself in submission and obedience.
A Christian is one who follows Christ,
one who is committed unquestionably
to Christ as Lord and Savior,
one who desires to please God.
His basic aim is to be in every way a disciple of Jesus Christ.
When he fails, he seeks forgiveness and wants to move forward.
This is his spirit and his direction.”
- John MacArthur

June 22, 2011 (true faith)

True faith is not feelings of fancy.

“Faith, obviously, is not a mere matter of feeling.
It cannot be, because one’s feelings
in this kind of condition
can be very changeable.
A Christian is not meant to be dejected
when everything goes wrong.
He is told to “rejoice”.
Feelings belong to happiness alone,
rejoicing takes in something much bigger than feelings;
and if faith were a matter of feelings only,
then when things go wrong and feelings change,
faith will go.
But faith is not a matter of feelings only,
faith takes up the whole man including his mind,
his intellect and his understanding.
It is response to truth.”
- Martyn Lloyd-Jones

“Faith has nothing to do with feelings or with impressions,
with improbabilities or with outward experiences.
If we desire to couple such things with faith,
then we are no longer resting on the Word of God,
because faith needs nothing of the kind.
Faith rests on the naked Word of God.
When we take Him at His Word,
the heart is at peace.”
- George Muller

June 21, 2011 (help us grow)

help us grow

“Every adversity that comes across our path,
whether large or small,
is intended to help us grow in some way.
If it were not beneficial,
God would not allow it or send it,
‘For he does not willingly bring
affliction or grief to the children of men’
(Lamentations 3:33).
God does not delight in our sufferings.
He brings only that which is necessary,
but He does not shrink from
that which will help us grow.”
- Jerry Bridges

June 20, 2011 (knowing and praising Him)

knowing and praising Him

“We praise what we enjoy
because the delight is incomplete
until it is expressed in praise.
If we were not allowed to speak of what we value,
and celebrate what we love,
and praise what we admire,
our joy would not be full.
So if God loves us enough to make our joy full,
He must not only give us Himself;
He must also win from us the praise of our hearts –
not because He needs to store up some weakness in Himself
or compensate for some deficiency,
but because He loves us
and seeks the fullness of our joy
that can be found only in knowing and praising Him,
the most magnificent of all Beings.”
- John Piper

June 19, 2011 (joy through suffering)

joy through suffering

“Thankfully, joy is an all-season response to life.
Even in the dark times,
sorrow enlarges the capacity of the heart for joy.
Like a diamond against black velvet,
true spiritual joy shines brightest
against the darkness of trials, tragedies and testing.”
- Richard Mayhue

“People are not prepared or able to rejoice in suffering
unless they experience a massive biblical revolution
of how they think and feel about the meaning of life.
Human nature and American culture
make it impossible to rejoice in suffering.
This is a miracle in the human soul
wrought by God through His Word.”
- John Piper

“Let thy great joy and comfort evermore be,
to have His pleasure done in thee,
though in pains, sickness, persecutions, oppressions,
or inward griefs and pressures of heart,
coldness or barrenness of mind,
darkening of thy will and senses,
or any temptations spiritual or bodily.”
- Robert Leighton

Hospital stay and early recovery (June 3rd - June 18th)

"PRAISE THE Lord! (Hallelujah!)
O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!"
- Psalm 106:1 AMP

I Wish

“I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,
And you always give more than you take.”
- Rascal Flatts

I just recently arrived home from a week long hospital stay (rather nasty ruptured appendix).
This post was supposed to have been made on June 5th, 2011 (Sunday) and since it was ready to be uploaded I decided to post it now. Soon I will be posting a SonRays to bridge the gap between Monday, June 6, 2011 and the present. Afterwards, daily posting should continue as usual. :)
God bless all of you!

I Believe

“I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see
Oh I believe”
- Brooks and Dunn

proclaiming salvation

“How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!"
– Isaiah 52:7 NIV

harmony with Him

“Do not have your concert first,
and then tune your instrument afterwards.
Begin the day with the Word of God and prayer,
and get first of all into harmony with Him.”
- Hudson Taylor

June 01, 2011 (let other things go)

let other things go

“It is impossible for a believer,
no matter what his experience,
to keep right with God
if he will not take the trouble
to spend time with God.
Spend plenty of time with him;
let other things go,
but don't neglect Him.”
- J. Oswald Sanders
