pure innocence

I think if ever I had to pick just one wildflower
it would this one… bluets
(Houstonia caerulea (Hedyotis caerulea).
Also called, Quaker Ladies or Innocence,
as well as a few other common names,
they are said to reflect the blue
and the serenity of heaven
in their pure, upturned faces.
“Know you what it is to be a child?
It is to be something very different
from the man of today.
It is to have a spirit
yet streaming from the waters of baptism;
it is to believe in love,
to believe in loveliness,
to believe in belief…”
- Francis Thompson
“The few wonders of the world
only exist while there are
those with the sight to see them.”
- Charles de Lint
“The silence often of pure innocence
persuades when speaking fails.”
- William Shakespeare
